As we get closer to the Christmas period, no doubt your thoughts are of celebrations with family and loved ones. Our thoughts also turn once again to those whose situations are different to our own and whom we are able to help.
The team at UWM have once again got together to support the Radio Aire Mission Christmas Toy Appeal here in Leeds. Every team member has bought a toy and they have been collected by the Radio Aire team. The toys are all distributed to disadvantaged children to help make their Christmas morning a little brighter.
Through our partnership with B1G1, UWM makes an impact throughout the year by making giving part of what we do. B1G1’s impact at the time of writing is in excess of 36 million micro-impacts. UWM’s impact is in excess of 46,000 micro-impacts. That’s 46,000+ lives impacted just by doing what we do on a regular basis, something the UWM Team are very proud of.
Last Christmas, we gave goats to five families in Kenya, which will in turn generate income for each family and make a huge difference for them for years to come.
This year, we have done things slightly differently. The whole team at UWM have been involved in the projects that we are supporting for Christmas, and each team member has picked a project from the 600+ projects that B1G1 supports. We have then arranged for the giving, which has impacted a total of 5,754 lives.
As you can see below, everyone picked different projects for different reasons:
Charlotte: Feed impoverished children at school from a poor family with three complete meals for one month.
To feed a child in poverty for a day is something special, but to be able to feed them 3 meals a day for a month is exceptional!
George: Feed impoverished children at school from a poor family with three complete meals for one month.
I chose this, so at least you know they are getting fed.
Jack: Give access to a fun playground for children in Cambodia for a year.
I have chosen this because I think it’s important for children to be active and to have fun whilst doing so.
Jonathan: Provide a set of textbooks and exercise books for a year for a child in Kenya.
I chose this project because my own children have all benefited from a great education and so many other children are unable to.
Liz: Give access to a dam for water supply for people for a year in Kenya.
I chose this because during my charity visit to Kenya two years ago, I saw firsthand how something as basic as water is a very precious commodity not readily available.
Paul: Give Life Skills education for two weeks to children in India.
So children can become more aware and ready for life as they grow up
Sharon: Give access to a fun playground for children in Cambodia for a year.
Because kids deserve some fun.
Stacey: Feed girls rescued from commercial sexual exploitation for a month.
Because the girls have obviously had a horrible life being sexually exploited and I think they deserve to feel equal and get everything they need to be successful and healthy.
